Gujarat’s First 29-Storey Building Coming Up In Capital

Paul John TNN

Ahmedabad: The structure of the tallest building in Gujarat is ready within the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City at Shahpur village in Gandhinagar. The 29-floor building was to be launched in August, but owing to the inclusion of new hi-tech safety features in the building, the pace of construction slowed down. The building will be launched by the end of December this year.
The building is the tallest in Gujarat and is in the non-SEZ, Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) area. While hardly any buildings go beyond the 37-meter mark, the 122-metre high building is visible from all directions in Gandhinagar city. “Since this building is in the non-SEZ area of the project, any company catering to domestic market can operate from here. However we prefer global firms establishing themselves here,” says a senior official at GIFT city.
The building is a part of ‘QC 1’ block in GIFT city. There is an addi
tional building of the same height coming up alongside it and is marked as QC 2 block.
The QC 1 block is being constructed by L&T Ltd. and developed by IL&FS Township & Urban Asset Limited (ITUAL) and has 12 high speed elevators.
On the other hand, QC 2 block which will be operational by January next year, is a commercial tower being developed by ITUAL and constructed by Al Nakra Constructions (ANC), Dubai. At the moment, construction has reached eighteenth floor. ITUAL will develop 7.77 million sq ft in its phase 1 of GIFT Project. The QC 1 block covers 0.7 million square feet alone.

The GIFT official adds, “The structure for QC 1 block is ready. At present, work on the glass façade is on and will be completed in the next few weeks. This will be the fastest that any construction company has built a building of this height.”
Recently the state government has approved water allocation of 90 million liters a day (MLD) from Narmada Main Canal. The mutli-service SEZ spreads over 261 acres. GIFT authorities plan to take up the work on construction of an exhibition complex which will be the country’s largest built exhibition center and will be operational 240 days a year.
